  • Format: 5R Swiss, 15min+10sec/move, FIDE Rapid rated & National Rapid rated


Registration

  • Entry criteria: Japan Chess Federation Members (Yearly or 1-time Tournament Members)
  • Entry Fee: 2,000 yen, U22 1,000 yen
*U22 refers to players who have not reached the age of 22 by January 1, 2023, and were born in and after 2001.
  • Registration: Register here through Google Forms.(32 spots)
  • Entries are accepted: Between Tuesday, 4th July and Friday, 28th July

Prizes

  • Top three finishers will have their participation fees waived next time they join our rated games meet.
  • Top two finishers from Nakano Chess Club will be able to join Japan Teams Chess Championship as a member of Nakano Chess Club team held on September 17 (Sun) and 18 (Mon). Nakano Chess Club will cover the entry fees (worth about 5,000 yen per player).

Tournament Rules

  • Tie-breaks:
  1. Buchholz Cut-1 (Sum of the opponents’ points excluding the lowest)
  2. Buchholz (Sum of the opponents’ points)
  3. Sonneborn-Berger (Sum of the defeated opponents’ points and halves of drawn opponents’ points)
  4. Sum of the ratings of the opponents
  5. Drawing of lots
  • Tie-breaks to decide Nakano Chess Club team member:
  1. Blitz tiebreaks at 3min+2sec/move. Keep playing sets of 2 games until one side scores at least 1.5/2 points.
  2. In case 2 players of same points directly encountered at the main tournament, the winner of the encounter will have an advantage in the blitz tiebreak. The first game will be played with the opposite color allocation to the tournament game.
  • Default time: If any player is not present within 10 min after the game starts, she/he shall lose the game by default. The game is not rated.
  • Pre-registered byes: Bye requests will be accepted until 18:00 on the day before the tournament by filling in the Bye Request Form.  0.5 points will be awarded for pre-requested Byes, and 0 points for Bye requested after the deadline. The requested Bye for the final 2 rounds shall be given 0 points.  If a player has more than 1 requested byes, the player will not qualify for prizes.
  • Pairing-allocated bye will be one point.
  • The organizer will provide chess equipment including clocks. Players must use them.
  • Players need NOT record moves. Once the game is finished, the winner should notify the arbiter the result. In case of a draw, the player with the White pieces tells the arbiter the result.
  • All electronic devices including smartphones, tablets or smartwatches must be turned off and stored away. Players are not allowed to keep it on him/her or take it outside of the venue in a bag. When a player breaks these rules, his/her game shall be immediately lost. It is forbidden for anybody to use a mobile phone or any kind of communication device in the playing venue.
  • The pairings will be done in order of FIDE Rapid Rating (if none, it will be substituted by FIDE Standard Rating ), National Rapid Rating (if none, it will be substituted by National Standard Rating), titles, and the alphabetical order of the players.
  • ※On chess-results, the rating value used to decide one’s starting rank is shown under the “EloN” index for convenience.
  • The tournament will follow FIDE rules unless otherwise stated above.  For example, an illegal move will be penalized and the second illegal move will result in the loss of the game. Pressing the clock by mistake or pressing it with the other hand which touched the pieces will also be judged as an illegal move.
  • [Update 2023/7/9] We will pair players 10 minutes before Round 1. Anyone who wishes to participate will have to complete registration by then.
  • [Update 2023/7/9] This tournament will be FIDE Rapid, National Rapid Rated for the September 2023 update. 
  • [Update 2023/7/9] You need a FIDE ID to participate this tournament. If you don't have a FIDE ID, you have two options:
1. Ask your country's Chess Federation to create you one
2. Join the Japanese Chess Federation as a yearly member (this is a requirement) and they will create the ID for you.
